Extremely hot temperatures had a huge impact on crops earlier this year, but what about sweet potatoes.
Madison Ford of Shiloh’s Farmers Market feels the heat is just one of the things to have an impact income of sweet potatoes.
“It’s definitely been a little harder to get our hands on sweet potatoes, the price has definitely gone up a little bit. Everything fresh from the crop has been a little bit harder; I mean with the holidays coming up that demand for sweet potatoes has gone up and it’s going to increasingly go up with Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and what not,” said Ford.
Focusing on the demand, Ford expressed it’s hard to keep sweet potatoes on the shelves around this time of year, but they do their best to meet the needs of customers.
“Sometime there might be a time or two where we don’t get them with the heat and high demand of them, and of the holidays, but yes we are meeting demand, and we are getting them,” said Ford.
Local Farmers say when it comes to crops in the heat, it’s best to always tend to the crops, and make the best of what can be done.
