Some fans never got over Kentucky Fried Chicken dropping their hot and crispy potato wedges from the menu. Potato wedges are getting a short trial run in Tampa, and we’re all holding our breath on whether they’ll ever come back. But there’s a new potato side in town that just might gain a following that supplants those potato-wedge cravings.
As of March 17, Kentucky Fried Chicken is selling Mashed Potato Poppers. Fried to a golden brown, the bite-sized poppers are creamy on the inside, crunchy on the outside. It sounds something like a crispy Tater Tot, but with a whipped mashed potato filling instead of shredded potatoes. And rather than ketchup, the poppers come with a side of warm gravy for dunking.

We admit it: This new format for KFC’s iconic mashed potatoes smothered in brown gravy has us interested.
“Our new Mashed Potato Poppers transform a legendary KFC classic into a crunchy can’t-resist bite of perfection,” claims KFC President Catherine Tan-Gillespie.
If you want to see if they live up to the legend, you can buy Mashed Potato Poppers in a five-pack or order them with KFC’s new Dunk It Bucket. The first new bucket to be introduced in nearly a decade combines hand-breaded chicken tenders and Mashed Potato Poppers.
You can choose from many dipping sauces if you get a bucket, from warm gravy (which KFC has officially declared a dipping sauce) to classics like comeback sauce, honey mustard, and ranch.
