A product recall of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips is now at the highest risk level for a batch that may contain undeclared milk ingredients.
The chips involved weren’t shipped to Kentucky, according to the recall, but if you don’t consume milk products due to lactose intolerance or an allergy, it could be worth checking before your next salty snack.
Here’s what happened and how to know if a bag of chips is part of the recall.
Frito-Lay issues recall warning for Lay’s Classic Potato Chips
Last month, Frito-Lay issued a recall warning that more than 6,300 of its 13-ounce bags may contain undeclared milk posing a risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration classified the recall as “Class I,” the most severe risk level.
The classification update is not a new recall or a change to the Dec. 16 recall, Frito-Lay said in a statement.
“The recall was executed in December in full cooperation with the FDA when the issue was identified. The recall was limited to two states, and recalled product has been removed from the marketplace,” the statement reads.
