SOUTH BEND — People gathered for the Thanksgiving meal in the South Bend area will be passing the stuffing as it was voted the favorite side dish in a recent South Bend Tribune poll.
And eaters rated jellied cranberry sauce a slight favorite over the whole cranberry sauce variety, and the canned holiday dish may make for less work for cooks at this holiday time.
Stuffing was chosen by 28.4% of the respondents as the favorite, followed by mashed potatoes (17.9%) and green bean casserole (9%), while there was a tie for fourth between candied sweet potatoes and jellied cranberry sauce (6.7%).
Polish sausage was sixth with 5.9% of the votes.
The poll was in response to a news release by BetOhio.com, which used Google Trends to analyze the most popular Thanksgiving side dishes of Indiana residents by looking at the search results for each side dish.
Their search results showed mac and cheese was the top side dish in Indiana, followed by stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and sweet potato casserole.
