Even though we’re well past March 17, every day is suddenly St. Patrick’s Day for Trader Joe’s shoppers. The beloved grocery store best known for its one-of-a-kind items just dropped a new potato chip flavor that’s taking the internet by storm: Garlic Butter Irish Potato Chips. The brand’s plain potato chips have long been a favorite, but this new flavor is quickly developing a fandom all its own.
Ireland is of course known for its delicious potato dishes, so it was only a matter of time before Trader Joe’s found a way to make the Irish tradition of potatoes all its own. In fact, the chips are produced by an Irish supplier before they’re delivered to Trader Joe’s stores and, according to the bag, they’re made with Irish butter. How’s that for authenticity?
As for the flavor, it’s not hard to see why the potato chips are quickly becoming a popular choice among Trader Joe’s shoppers. They’re garlicky, buttery, and, of course, salty — plus they have just the right amount of bite.
Naturally, the chips are already making the rounds on social media. One Trader Joe’s shopper commented on Instagram, “Bought 2 bags today and gonna go back for more!” Other fans weighed in with a range of enthusiastic replies, from “Waaaaaaant!” to “Yes sign me up,” to “They are delicious.”
The Garlic Butter Irish Potato Chips cost $2.99 a bag and are flying off the store’s shelves. Some shoppers are reporting that the tasty new chip flavor has yet to arrive at their local Trader Joe’s store, so if you don’t see it quite yet at the location nearest to you, don’t worry: They’re likely on their way, so you’ll still get a chance to try them. But if you see them, you might want to grab a second bag, because chances are they won’t be in stock for long.
