From sunrise to sunset on Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29, the R.D. Offutt Park Rapids farm team invites community members to an “all-you-can-dig party.” Those interested can bring potato forks and buckets to an RDO field and dig free potatoes to their heart’s content.
Luke Warmbold, RDO Park Rapids farm manager, said the Potato Field Days event has become a great tradition.
“Now in our 10th year, I hear from many families and community members who are excited to come out to dig potatoes,” he said in a news release. “We know that neighbors dig for neighbors, church members for lefse dinners and families to stock up for the winter. We are so proud to be able to provide this resource to the community.
As always, we ask attendees to stay within the flagged digging area, park vehicles adjacent to the field (not in the field or on the crop), and be mindful of others in attendance,” he said in the news release.
The field is located south of Park Rapids. Take U.S. Hwy. 71 south to State Hwy. 87 and go east 0.75 miles. The field will be on the north side of the road. Banners will be hung and the dig area marked.
